Marseilles, 1957; adaoptive city of large numbers of political refugees from the Mediterranean Basin. Jeanne is among the Spaniards who left to escape Franco's regime at the end of the thirties. Now married with a small daughter, she lives a peaceful existence. One day, Jeanne meets Ali Redjala, an Algerian FLN activist. He approaches her to distribute his political tracts among the Algerians who work at her factory. Jeanne accepts, and little by little becomes more deeply committed to the cause. Her relationship with Ali intensifies as her increasingly active involvement in the conflict brings them together...
