'Peter and Catherine' is a sexy, engaging, funny and original love story. Set in Poland, at the beginning of the 18th Century, it tells the story of the simple maid Marta Skawronska who becomes a war trophy as the Russian army overruns her part of the country. Sexy and formidable, she rises through the ranks, becomes the mistress of Count Menshikov and thereby encounters Tsar Peters the Great. A true case of 'love at first sight', Peters falls in love with her marries her against all odds. The lowly wench Marta becomes Tsarina Catherine I. For twenty years they share a genuine partnership. But Peter's unfaithfulness is a thorn in Catherine's soul. The lethal affair with the unfortunate courtier Mons causes the death of Peter and her beloved ones. Alone, Catherine goes on to rule the largest empire in the world.
